Aberdeen Library Building Renovation: A New Chapter Begins
The Aberdeen Library is more than just a place for books—it's a community hub where ideas are sparked, creativity flourishes, and connections are made. Over the years, this newly renovated building will serve individuals and families in new and exciting ways! Come visit…don’t miss out on Aberdeen’s new ‘sense of place.’
What Changed?
The renovation project was designed to modernize and provide expanded space in our new library, making it a welcoming, functional, and accessible space for everyone in the community. Keep in mind, the 123 Exchange Street building is an historic, century old building built in 1912. Here is what you will find on your first visit:
An interior designed to: Fuse 1912 materials with 21st century materials, colors and fine furniture. You will see that the layout is more flexible, has comfortable spaces for reading, studying and community programs. However, the design did not sacrifice the history and charm of the building; we worked hard to preserve what was feasible.
A Community Room and a Study Room: The library contains space for educational workshops, events, and activities for children, teens, and adults. These programs were not possible in the previous library.
Modern Technology: Joining the 21st century with upgraded computer stations, digital resources, and wi-fi access, the library is better equipped to serve the evolving needs of our community.
Increased Accessibility: Improvements have been made to ensure that everyone, including those who are differently abled, can easily navigate and enjoy the library. The design was created to create a welcoming and accessible space for the entire community.
Energy Efficiency: The architectural layout in tandem with the aesthetically pleasing interior design, integrated sustainable building practices to reduce the library’s environmental impact and operating costs.
The Impact of Your Support
This renovation was more than just creating a modern library from an historic building—it’s about investing in our future. It’s about providing a space where learning, creativity, and community thrive. Whether you’re a lifelong library lover or someone who will be discovering the space for the first time, the new library will serve as a place of inspiration for all ages.
