A New Park for Aberdeen!
It has been a long time since we began the development of the Library Green and the Reading Garden, but we are ever so close to completion. Of course, a park is never truly finished, as it will continue to change with the seasons and with some caring human efforts!
The pollinator section of the Reading Garden has come into its own with plants blooming and spreading! It looks lush and healthy, is providing homes for bees and helpful insects and should continue to flourish in its annual mode into the early fall. Several FOAL Board members, some members of the Aberdeen Home & Garden Club, the Sandhills chapter of the NC Native Plant Society (who also helped by planting pine trees), and Master Gardeners of Moore County have been the artists at work. Funds from the Botanical Garden Club made much of the pollinator section possible and Meadow Flower Farm donated many plants and provided labor! THANKS TO ALL !!
The 40’ diameter patio, with its water feature and flowers, now has ‘furniture’…….the pergola installation was completed the week of June 15th and four new benches have been installed. The pergola sets off the entire Reading Garden section of the park and will provide a place for residents to rest, reflect and enjoy Mother Nature.
Adjacent to the pergola, we now have a beautiful wind sculpture, by Mike Roig of Carrboro, NC and donated by Diane Vosilus of Pinehurst, NC. It is the perfect complement to the rest of the park and provides a bit of whimsy bringing a smile to all…..especially when a zephyr drifts by and the sculpture takes a spin!!!
The Library Green has been completed for nearly a year, the grass has come in nicely, four benches have been installed and many a tired soul has relaxed on the stone wall separating the Green from the Garden section. Newlyweds have taken photos on the Green for the simple beauty it provides. It’s summer now, so bring your blanket and soak up the sun, lounge on the wall or enjoy some shade.
